A Review of the Hobie Mirage Eclipse

Ready for some excitement? How about a fun, easy-to-transport water sports board that allows you to combine recreation and exercise together as one?

Being the first of it’s kind to hit the market, the Hobie Mirage Eclipse allows you to stand and pedal while on water. The motion closely mimics that of riding a bicycle.

That’s right; the perfect combination of a high-speed kayak and stand up paddle board has finally been combined into one. In this quick handy-dandy overview guide we will present a review of the awesome stand up pedal board.

General Overview

This new type of board is stable and suitable for newbies or experienced “paddlers” looking for a unique and fun ride.

Not only is it easy to put together and launch, but the propulsion system and ease at which it moves through the water makes it conveniently suitable for both kids and adults alike. You just step on and “start walking” – no seat or paddle required. Navigating is also a breeze (as you’ll see in the video below) with easy-press steering controls which allow you to glide left or right.

The rudder (which helps you to move) conveniently folds up as you approach land, so there’s no need to worry about ever causing damage to your blade. The tie-down section of the SUP board means you can attach fishing equipment and take your experience to a whole new level.

Say goodbye to the gym for the summer as we can almost guarantee you’ll be spending most of your free time on the water, under the sun and on one of these bad boys.

Super Bonus Feature: You can also use this as a regular paddle board by just locking the rudder fins in place and taking off the handle attachment. Can you say win, win win!

This is an exciting and evolving market that may see the release of several other boards in the future. At the moment the Eclipse is in a class of its own. With the demand being extremely high for this type of board we anticipate the demand will always be high.

Before the pedal board became a hit, paddle-boarding was the sport to take on. This water sport has similar characteristics. However, the adventure seeker used a “paddle” to move in the water and therefore utilized mostly his / her hands. In contrast, the stand-up pedal board requires that you use your feet to move and “propel” yourself in the water.

To be honest, if you’re looking to grab the best of both worlds, then this may very well be a way to go. The Hobie can be easily converted to and from a paddle board by removing the propulsion system and the handle bars.

Once you’ve done that, then it’s pretty much a good ol’ paddle. Just jump on and utilize your hand muscles to drive and push you forward.

User Feedback

The feedback from users of the Hobie Mirage Eclipse Pedal Board has been tremendous so far. Many users have commented on how easy it was to put together. When compared to the all-too-familiar paddle board, it’s much faster owning to the fact that it is propelled by making use of the foot muscles.

Before we provide our feedback and rating, here’s a user submitted video from Jerry Hill who shared his thoughts on the setup with us:

Pretty easy and convenient right? We think so!

Our Personal Thoughts

We believe this is a new and revolutionized way of encouraging people to have a fun and active lifestyle.

Kids will give up gaming consoles and adults will give the gym a break for a few minutes on the Hobie Mirage Eclipse.

For those wondering about accessories, the Eclipse includes a protective bag for the board and a cart that facilitates easy transport from the car to the water. Since you’ll be spending quite some time out there, they’ve also included a cup holder (holds your refreshing drinks for a quick cool down) and a universal phone mount so that you can capture the precious moments.

Demand and Dealers

Since it’s release, the Hobie Mirage Eclipse has been a HUGE hit attracting a ton of attention on social media with tons of comments, feedback, and interest to grab the board. The creators thus far have been working quite hard to keep up with the demand by supplying their dealers with boards.

We think it’ll never be enough though. At least for now.

If you’re interested in buying one, you can check the official Hobie website for a dealer nearest to your location (they’re all over the United States). Optionally, you can check on Amazon, as we’ve been lucky to track one or two there a few times when we checked ourselves (though they seem to go super fast when listed).

For people in countries like Australia, the United Kingdom and the rest of the world; there may be options available for you too!

With that said, within time there will be more produced, and it’s expected that stores all over the country will stock them. So if you’re not interested in grabbing one right away, we’re confident enough to say that once you are, they will be available for you to grab.
